Images from an in vivo (rat) biocompatibility study of subcutaneous implantation of Tutoplast-processed dermis, fascia lata, and pericardium (dermis implantation shown).
Day 4: Cell ingrowth noted at implant periphery, with macrophages being the most numerous cell type. Fibroblasts have proliferated and new capillaries have formed around implant.
Day 7: Vascular channels and fibroblasts noted within the imĀplant, with proliferation of granulation tissue noted surrounding the implant.
Week 16: Implants completely replaced by mature granulation tissue. No inflammation present and implant areas are partially compartmentalized by branching capillaries.
